What Happens During a Spravato Treatment?
Sessions take place in a private in-office suite. You administer the nasal spray yourself under supervision, then stay for at least two hours of monitoring before heading home with a driver.
Before you arrive
Arrange your ride home in advance. Follow any instructions about eating and drinking before your session, and take your usual medications unless told otherwise. Comfortable clothes, headphones and a favorite playlist are a good idea.
Check-in
We review how you have been since your last visit and check your blood pressure. Then you settle into a recliner in the treatment suite with a blanket if you would like one.
Dosing
You spray the medication yourself, following simple step-by-step instructions, while a clinician supervises. The whole dosing process takes only a few minutes.
The monitoring period
You stay for a minimum of two hours. Many people feel a floaty or detached sensation, mild dizziness or sleepiness within the first half hour; this usually settles well before the two hours are up. Blood pressure is rechecked, and you are observed until you are stable and cleared to leave.
Going home
Your driver takes you home. Do not drive or operate machinery until the next day, after a full night's sleep. Most people plan a quiet rest of the day and return to normal activity the following morning.
