How Spravato is usually billed

Because Spravato is administered in a certified setting rather than picked up at a pharmacy, it is generally billed through your medical benefit. There are typically two parts: the medication itself and the in-office administration and monitoring time.

What prior authorization involves

Insurers commonly ask for documentation of:

• A diagnosis of major depressive disorder.
• At least two prior antidepressant trials, with dose and duration.
• Continued use of an oral antidepressant.
• That treatment will be given in a REMS-certified setting.

We assemble this and submit it on your behalf. Approvals are usually time-limited, so a renewal is submitted as maintenance continues.

What you will owe

Out-of-pocket cost depends on your deductible, coinsurance and out-of-pocket maximum. Once your plan responds, we explain what was approved and what to expect so there are no surprises. The manufacturer also publishes patient support and savings information on the official Spravato website.
