Spravato Guide
How Long Does Spravato Treatment Take?
Each visit runs about two and a half hours. The treatment course begins with four weeks of twice-weekly sessions, then spaces out based on how you respond.
A single visit
Budget roughly two and a half hours: a short check-in and blood pressure check, a few minutes of self-administered dosing, and a minimum two-hour observation period before you are cleared to go home with your driver.
The treatment course
- Weeks 1–4 (induction): two sessions per week.
- Weeks 5–8: one session per week.
- Week 9 onward (maintenance): weekly or every other week, individualized to your response.
When people start to notice a change
Response varies. Some people notice a shift during the first few weeks of induction, while for others it takes longer, and some do not respond. We track your symptoms at each visit and reassess the plan together rather than continuing indefinitely without benefit.
How long treatment continues
If Spravato helps, maintenance dosing often continues for months, with the interval stretched to the longest one that keeps you well. Decisions about tapering or stopping are made together and always alongside your oral antidepressant plan.
Planning around it
Because you cannot drive afterward, it helps to schedule sessions when a ride is available and to keep the rest of that day light. Our Mason office also offers evening hours on Wednesdays and Saturday morning appointments.
This article is general information, not medical advice. Eligibility and dosing are decided during an individual evaluation with Nikki Ruoss, APRN, PMHNP-BC, a board-certified psychiatric mental health nurse practitioner.
